INDIANA---"Beyond Vernacular" is a two person show at the Arts Council of Indianapolis - Gallery 924 that explores the rural setting of "middle" America, home to both Matt Hutton, as well as Corby Robinson. Hutton draws architectural inspiration from agrarian structures in pursuit of familiar form while blurring the lines between art and design, but also clearly religion. A featured work in the show is "1000 N," of white pine, ash and ebony. While there are many ways to view crosses, this smoothed yet rugged cross would be ideal for hanging in the chapel of any rural (or city) church, such is its impact as it dominates the space creating peaceful refuge from the chaos of the natural world.
Gallery 924: "Beyond Vernacular," (Ends March 29), 924 N. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis. For more information, call 317-631-3301 or visit indyarts.org/gallery924
