The Jewish Passover ended this past week but Jewish identity remained on full display. The art news focus was on a provocative new exhibit at the Jewish Museum in Berlin where a Jewish volunteer sits inside a glass box, and answers questions about their Jewish identity. On a different stage this week in Indianapolis, I marveled as NYC cabaret star Scott Alan, who is also Jewish, shared frank reflections on his Jewish-liberal-gay identity mixed with jokes like "drinking wine like Jesus" and "I'm not racist -- I have a black friend" which made conservative Hoosiers in the audience squirm. Experiencing religious identities through art is a passion, and that's why "Jew in a Box" (above) is my NEWS OF WEEK.
