Christie's London Announces Islamic Art Week Auction

UNITED KINGDOM --- Dubbed "Islamic Splendors," Christie's of London will feature five sales from 22 - 26 April with a few hundred lots of Islamic and Indian art pieces. The sale will include exquisite craftsmanship, works of art on paper dating back to the 9th century, Oriental rugs and carpets, among dozens of other lots. 22 April will witness the sale of the first part of the Saeed Motamed collection, which consists of over 600 art pieces. The second part of this collection will go on sale on 7 October. "Saeed Motamed (1925-2013) started collecting art in 1953 and continued to do so until the late 1980s and early 1990s. The collection displays the depth and breadth of his knowledge of the artistic traditions of Iran, and the rest of the Islamic World," states Christie's official press release. Comprising of over 200 lots Christie's will present a collection of Oriental rugs and carpets on 23 April. [link]
