Hinduism is a complex and beautiful religious tradition. A principle concept is that of the "Trinity" where God is Brahma the creator, Vishnu the protector, as well as Shiva the quintessential destroyer. The Trinity is also a principle concept for Christianity. Also like other traditions, there are times when differences in Hindu denominations collide. This past week, Indian painter Eleena Banik experienced this collision when her nude paintings of a goddess were labeled "blasphemous" by a group of Hindu conservatives. My passion for religious freedom through art makes Eleena Banik's "E3" (above) and her censored works too, my NEWS OF WEEK.
