ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By TAHLIB
Marriage is rough, regardless of whether a couple shares one race, one faith, or the same sex. Divorce rates in interracial marriages overall show a 41% chance of separation compared to 31% in couples who did not marry interracially. Researcher Naomi Schaefer Riley says in her book "Till Faith Do Us Part," that while 36% of all American marriages are now interfaith, overall rates of divorce are noticeably higher. Similarly, while international surveys of gay divorce rates are only half of their heterosexual peers, the rates are still as high as 19%. As America moves forward on the road to increased "freedom to marry", we should seize this as an opportunity to "ending divorce" for same sex, interfaith, interracial, and all couples. In doing so, perhaps through the institution we all love called marriage, we'll find the "miracle glue" that authors Robert D. Putnam and David E. Campbell call "American Grace".
